Things To Pack When Staying At A Hostel

Packing always tends to pose a problem for most people. They would carry every household item along, and then find luggage quite a pain. Or else they would miss out on essentials and then run around hunting for where it could be purchased. If you are planning to stay at a hostel, it is important that you know what to pack, so that you will be able to enjoy your stay.

Packing To Stay At A Hostel

  • Buy an inflatable pillow and carry it along with you. Hostels do have pillows, but having your own inflatable pillow will add to the comfort of sleeping. These pillows also take very little packing space once they are folded up.
  • Carry along a washcloth and a towel. Not all hostels offer towels and washcloths free of cost. In some cases, the towels that are offered may not suit you. So it is better to be prepared. Remember, also, that if you go swimming, you cannot take along the hostel’s towels. Your own towels will come in handy in this case.
  • Carry along a few empty plastic bags. They will be useful if you wish to hold food, wet clothes, dirty underwear, flowers or just anything else that you would like to store.
  • Carry along a few mini-kits such as a snack kit or a first aid kit. You will never know when there might be an urgent requirement for a band-aid or a bar of chocolate. Mini-kits will help you take care of any little emergencies that come up.
  • A set of locks will come in handy if you would like to keep your backpack locked. You definitely do not want to have anyone pulling pranks on you and stuffing things into your luggage.
  • You will need a pair of waterproof sandals for use in the wet areas of the hostel such as the bathrooms. Apart from this, they will also come in handy when you are going to the beach.
  • Carry along a small alarm clock. This will be useful if your alarm on your mobile phone fails you at any time.
  • Post-its and a marker are great things to carry along on travel. You can leave yourself reminders or even leave notes for your fellow travellers, probably with regard to food in the fridge and other things.
  • A small flashlight is an essential that needs to definitely be packed. It will come in handy if the power goes out, or if you need to use the bathroom at night and do not wish to wake up the whole dorm.
